Despite being a fantasy, CHAOS is a series deeply rooted in reality.

It will deal with heavy topics at times. However, as someone who works in the mental health field and has personal experience with trauma, I will do my best to handle things with care and consideration. If you go to the page for the specific book, you will find a link to a page detailing any trigger warnings or content advisories you may need.

I have put in many hours, days, months, etc. of research into CHAOS so that I could do this story, this world, and these characters the utmost justice and treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve because to me characters are representations of real people. They are not perfect. They are flawed and multifaceted.

With that said, I want to note that there is a character who is Indigenous (Ojibwe) though she doesn’t have a relationship with the community due to family history. I pulled from my own personal experiences as someone who is Ojibwe and doesn’t have a relationship with her community due to family history. This in no way is meant to represent all Indigenous or Ojibwe people as we are not monoliths. For other characters, I also pulled from my personal experiences with mental health and trauma and my personal experiences as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and I also pulled from what I learned in my job in the mental health industry. Again, these are not meant as a representation of all people who fit these backgrounds or experiences.

For my other POC characters, I made sure to get assistance to ensure I am handling them respectfully, and I will do the same with all future books. That does not exempt me from being called out if someone finds any part of my work problematic in any way, and I respect that. I am only including this as my promise that I will always do my damndest to treat my characters and my audience with respect by doing my homework, educating myself, and seeking assistance from those who know better than me so I can avoid overstepping boundaries or causing harm to real people or communities. I take this very seriously.

I won’t shy away from highlighting real issues because even if it is not part of the plot, to highlight one issue with purpose while ignoring other issues is ignorant, disrespectful, and incredibly harmful.
